BLURB:

Martin is a guy’s guy, one who enjoys the simple things in life: baseball games with his son, family days, barbecues, and date nights with his lovely wife.

Once a year for two weeks, Martin takes his son, Marty, to Quillon’s Covert, a rustic family cabin secluded in the beautiful California mountains. Since before those long days of learning to play ball, Marty has loved his dad, but as Marty matures, Martin starts to see something else settle in his son’s uncertain gaze. What’s there lingers a little more than it should, and it seems far more appraising than it once was.

As Marty shows every sign of taking the lead, Martin is faced with the tough choices most parents never see: lose his son by being a father, or try to balance what’s best for their relationship by being something… more.

But with another trip to Quillon’s Covert on the horizon, has the point of no return already begun?

REVIEW:

Quillon’s Covert, the first collaboration by Joseph Lance Tonlet and Louis Stevens, is a beautifully touching story that chronicles the changing love of a father and son.

In our world today the word taboo immediately conjures up forbidden thoughts. Add to that the illicit stigma of incest and the emotions run high.

But, have you ever stopped to think how these relationships can, and do, occur? I mean true relationships: not child molestation or forced sex, but real, consensual adult relationships.

Quillon’s Covert is one such tale. Tonlet and Stevens masterfully craft a story that narrates the growing relationship of Martin and Marty through thirteen summers at the family cabin.

The authors cleverly dispel any notion of deviant behavior by constantly reminding you how old Martin and Marty are as time progresses. Then again, through Martin’s thoughts of his satisfying sex life and devoted love for his wife. Via Martin’s constant expression of paternal pride in his son. Through Marty’s thoughts of trying to understand why he feels like he does for his father. But most of all, by steering you to the sincere intellectual closeness Martin and Marty share

But even as this supports a natural father and son relationship it begins to fuel something more meaningful. I could actually see and feel a deeper connection happening.

As the years pass and feelings begin to surface I found my mind fighting saying no, no, no while my heart kept saying yes, yes, yes….much as Martin and Marty’s do. As father and son begin to recognize what is happening they each try, in their own way, not to encourage or reciprocate. But as with any love, it cannot be denied.

Even as the dynamics of Martin and Marty’s relationship begin to change the authors shrewdly remind you that this is indeed a father and son. The characters never forgot such in their thoughts and interactions, even down to Marty touching on his father’s own intimate relations with his mother.

Furthermore father and son consistently discuss the implications of what they are about to do: once done, it cannot be undone - they can not go back. They are two adults making an informed, rational, life changing decision - together!

Down to the epilogues last pages Quillon’s Covert is a brilliant story of two men forced to face a relationship that cannot be ignored. A physical love forbidden by the world, yet one that cannot be concealed. Two people living out their overwhelming bond, their connection, their desire in the best way they know how. This is not a story of forbidden love but rather a story that reflects how profound love can truly be.

The depth of the father and sons meaningful love is never more felt than in Martin and Marty’s spoken whispers of “D”, “yep, right here, Buddy”. Please read this story and tell me you don’t feel it too!

Do not dismiss reading Quillon’s Covert solely based on the subject matter. If you do you will most definitely be missing out on a profound book that will leave your heart and your mind thinking - what if?

I was given a copy of Quillon's Covert by the authors, at no charge, in exchange for my fair and honest opinion.

EXCERPT:

Marty’s head rocked back and forth against the pillow, his eyes were closed at the moment, but they flitted open intermittently and faint whimpers sporadically escaped his parted lips. Martin had done this on rare occasions with Allie, but the hard bundle of nerves his fingers were massaging made this time an entirely different experience. Well that, and the undulating body moving under his touch was his son’s and not his wife’s.

“Feels good, huh, Champ?”

“Oh, Dad…feels sooo good.”

And it looked good too. Martin had never denied that he was able to appreciate the masculine beauty of the male form. But he’d never dreamed, in a million years, that he’d be appreciating a man from this particular angle—and never his son. Yet, here he was, watching as Marty’s dick continued to grow stiffer and harder. It stood straight up from his body, pulsing with reaction at Martin’s movements. He reached his free hand up and slid the foreskin down and then let it creep back up on its own.

“Dad,” Marty panted, “I feel like…like everything is buzzing. Like everyt-t-thing is right on the verge of being too much, but I still want more.”

Martin slid the foreskin down again and then watched it slide slowly back up his son’s cock. Initially he’d been slightly envious when it became apparent Marty’s dick had grown larger than his own, but now he simply enjoyed seeing how much pleasure it gave his son. And, as cocks went, he had to admit it was a pretty damn attractive one.

Over and over, he slid the skin down, let it ease back up, while continuing to circle his son’s prostate.

Marty’s fingers curled into the bunched sheets. “Mmmm, Daaaad! Jeeeez!”

Martin twisted his fingers slightly and pushed down with a bit more pressure, and was transfixed as clear fluid continually oozed from beneath Marty’s foreskin. Bending over, he clasped his lips around the engorged head and gently sucked.

Marty’s hips bucked.

“Oh God, oh God, oh God…gonna cooome, Dad.”

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

JOSEPH is a born and raised Southern Californian—with a twenty-year stint of living in the Midwest. He loves the laid-back lifestyle of San Diego and considers himself lucky to live where people dream of vacationing.

A lifelong reader of m/m fiction, he began his writing career one night sitting at his MacBook and has never looked back. He writes to bring the characters he dreams about to life.

LOUIS is a gay romance author born and raised in South Africa. He was a shy outcast who had few friends in school; generally feeling excluded and on the fringe of society. However, when he discovered gay romance and erotica in 2007, at the age of seventeen, his mind and world opened up. He wrote his first story, A Better Life, longhand in a 197 page spiral notebook, on his bed every night with a pillow curled under his chin. Although the book wouldn’t be published until 2011, with the now defunct Silver Publishing, he found the experience entirely liberating. He's considered himself a writer ever since.
