In the aftermath of Jack Harrison’s release from the psychiatric unit, Gray Raoul’s first instinct is to take brutal revenge on the one responsible for financing Jack and Jan’s torturous psychological reconditioning. However, that person plays the game dangerously well, and knows exactly how to manipulate everyone in Gray’s life. To help negotiate this delicate situation, Gray contacts ex-Diadem Doms Trace and Gabriel Hunter. But the more Gray seems to regain control, the clearer it becomes that there’s something not quite right about Jan Richards. Jan quickly unravels, taking Jack and Gray with him, and bringing out one particularly deadly player. Gray is left with one last defense: break Jack down in order to partner up with his alter ego, Martin. But once freed, Martin has plans of his own, and he wants to make it personal with Gray. Complete trust between Master and sub, between Gray and Jack, will be tested to the absolute limit.

Today I’m hijacking a few Don’t series readers to see what they’d like to know about the Don’t lads from a behind-the-scenes perspective. Backlash is the 4th novel in the Don’t… series, and I can tell the ride hasn’t been easy for those lovely lads and ladies who have stepped forward with their questions. To help me out, I’ve got Jack Harrison, Jan, and Gray himself here with me, just to help answer some of the questions. Okaaay… so Gray’s standing inches from me, arms folded, and staring me down, but I think I’ll just ignore that and move on—very quickly.

Kathy Mcfarland: I have a question for Jan.

Jan: *Looks over*

Kathy: Over the previous five months, you’ve become very close to Gray. How would you describe your feelings for Jack compared to Gray? Would you say that you are more submissive to Gray but more Dominant to Jack?

Jack H: *Snorts, then nudges his shoulder into Jan’s* Hey, soft lad, you think you could go Gray on my ass and Dom me?

Jan: Gag. I could definitely gag your ass sometimes.

Jack H: Trust you to get the wrong ho—

Jan: Tights. That’s all I’m saying, Jack – tights.

Jack H: *Goes very red* They’re man stockings, and I wear them under my coveralls, when I’m on the floor, under a car, and purely to—

Gray: Keep your bollocks warm. Yeah, we get that.

Jan: *Sighs and sits down by Kathy*. It’s complicated. There’s a lot of safety with a normal vanilla lifestyle, and I love how Gray respects that, Jack too. But they’ve been Dom and sub together for a long time; it would feel awkward trying to fit into that dynamic. I like to watch—

Jack H. *coughs* Voyeur.

Jan: *Grins* whatever those pair tag it as. *loses his smile a touch and Jack H comes over*. It got distorted along the line, though, and I really miss watching the fire.

Gray: *Moves close to Ms. Pyke*

Jan: But as for my feelings for Jack and Gray. *Finds a smile again* It’s about to get very intense.

Fiona Rachel Warner: Jack, Jan, Gray - what would be your perfect date night?

Jan: Oh that’s easy for Jack: in the garage, under the car, with a wrench, and me turning the engine over after Gray gives the nod.

Jack: Jan, he’s in the living room, with Mr. White, candlestick in hand, playing Cluedo, right, soft lad?

Jan: *Laughs* Now Gray, he’d just be happy with a few minutes with Ms Pyke.

Ms Pyke: I take it we’re not talking dinner and roses here?

Gray: Peace. I just want some bloody peace.

Jack: Now you’re talking: gun-play!

Gray: *looks back* How the hell do you go from peace to gun-play?

Jack: Peace… you carry a Piece… firearm… ergo gun-play. *Waggles his eyebrows* One for the MC suggestion box?

Jane Siveyer: What events / forces have helped to shape Gray into the man we know and love today?

Ms. Pyke: *Looks at Gray* Do you mind if I answer that?

Gray: You can try.

Ms. Pyke: A lot of Gray’s history comes into play in Backlash, especially surrounding his childhood and growing up in Wales. I know Wales from holidays there as a kid, and I always loved the conflicting roll of the landscape: inviting, with valleys and streams, but a lot of wildness and an easy route to death to it because of those very same things. A lot of what happened there with Gray offers that same draw about who Gray is. There’s a painting mentioned in Backlash, and in a way it underpins everything about Gray.

Jack H: *Looks over at Gray* Yeah, I caught that, old mukka.

Katerina: Gray, what is “Never far from here” in Welsh?

Jack H and Jan share a glance.

Ms. Pyke: Ah, that’s a quote from Backlash, and definitely one for Gray. Do you mind?

Gray: *stays quiet for a moment* byth yn bell o’r fan hon, Katerina.

Jack H: Better fucking believe it.

Lou: Who does Gray prefer, Jack or Martin? *ducks*

Jan: *stiffens*

Ms. Pyke: I’ll take this one, but it is just my interpretation. Gray likes to keep details from me too, so I never presume to know everything where he’s concerned.

I think both Jack and Martin hit separate levels within Gray. Gray’s primarily an interrogation’s officer for MI5, who also has a darker side working for the MOD and their cullers. His own intelligence versus his sadistic levels are fed and bred throughout the years, and I think Martin ignites both of those sides in Gray: Gray knows he can break all rules with Martin and Martin will push him harder to do just that. It’s pure negative attraction and the offer to never exhaust and back off between either side that drives those two. With Jack… Jack’s just a big puppy who needs Gray’s calm and control in order to manage his way through life, and in a way, Jack tests Gray’s soul with needing to play and love with the rules in mind. Gray will sleep and lie still with Jack to exhaust Jack and just lie still in the calm aftermath. Martin flips the coin in Gray, and Gray would sleep with him just to see who would bleed old wounds first. So in reality, I really think Gray would love a blending of personalities without losing the best of both. Mostly I think he’d just like Jack to be able to remember the rough that they all go through.

Jack H: You’d sleep with Martin, Mukka? Have you slept with Martin, Mukka?

Jan: Best leave that up to Backlash, Jack. No judgement, remember? Just the room and freedom to fall if we need to.

Ms. Pyke: Okay, I’m gonna thank everyone for stopping by to ask questions, and mostly thank Gray for, well, not disecting me and adding me to his wall art!

Gray: *Grunts*

Ohhhkay! On that note, thanks also again to Kimmers for allowing us to stop here with our Book Tour. Tomorrow were over at Attention is Arbitrary, and I’m talking to my dark consultant, Vicki, and just how she helps play a part in shaping Jack, Jan’s, and Gray’s fate. There’s also still time to catch yesterday’s post over at Books Laid Bare Boys, where I was talking to HPStrangeglove and getting an insight into her expertise with computers and MI5

Thank you to everyone who stops by!

Jack L. Pyke Bio: Jack L. Pyke blames her dark writing influences on living close to one of England’s finest forests. Having grown up hearing a history of kidnappings, murders, strange sightings, and sexual exploits her neck of the woods is renowned for, Jack takes that into her writing, having also learned that human coping strategies for intense situations can sometimes make the best of people have disastrously bad moments. Redeeming those flaws is Jack’s drive, and if that drive just happens to lead to sexual tension between two or more guys, Jack’s the first to let nature take its course.
