REVIEW:
After having read an excerpt of Awakening, Crossing Desires Book One in Megs Pritchard’s debut short, Valentine’s Surprise, I couldn’t wait to read this full story.
What I’m beginning to find I enjoy most about Pritchard’s work is that she has a fantastic way of detailing in her stories. You get such a sense of scenery, placement and emotions that you can’t help but be drawn in. And her characters have a lot of, well, character to them.
From the first page of Awakening you can feel Tony’s dilemma, his humiliation, as he awakes the “morning after” in unfamiliar surroundings in a compromising situation. You sympathize with his panic and need to leave before he faces the reality of what must have occurred.
But face it he must: as he unconsciously left something behind that requires personal retrieval, which sets him on a path of confronting his confusing feelings.
Once he meets his “one night stand”, Will, his inner turmoil deepens and you can sense Tony’s struggle with his desires.
Does he or doesn’t he want to know what happened? Why does he feel something for Will? What is wrong with him?
With the enthusiastic help of his brother, Zeke, Tony tries to make sense of his warring emotions. Each time you think he might be getting close to his truth an event from his past seems to combat with his ability to admit his attraction to Will.
And Will: He is fantastic! Playing their situation for all it is worth. Using what only he knows to make Tony come back for more.
Will is the compassionate aggressor, the consummate seducer…..and good at what he does. Holy BJ! Yet he has an awareness, an understanding that Tony needs to analyze his confusion over what is happening.
Then just when you think Tony might be accepting what he truly wants, Pritchard leaves you with a cliffhanger...that will make you want to continue with Tony’s Struggle.
There were some repetitive descriptions used, which prevented a five heart read from me. But in its entirety Awakening is an arousing tale of sexual discovery. The reality that we can be attracted to anyone. It just takes the right person, the right spark. Yet when it does happen, and is against everything we have come to know as “acceptable”, how do we make the leap to submit to our own Awakening?
