Monday Mentions: October 3, 2016
Welcome to another Monday Mentions where we try to put just a couple of this week’s new release reads on your radar.
Today Rick R. Reed brought us Dinner at Jack’s. A love story that traverses a relationship with some “challenges” while in the process using food as a backdrop. Even going so far as to include recipes at the beginning of some chapters!
Our next selection brings you a young adult, bisexual read, with a little bit of fantasy via The Upside of Anger by Francis Gideon, which releases tomorrow, October 4th.
In this tale running takes Justin away from his relationship problems. But when his mom gives away his running shoes he stumbles upon an identical pair that are both cursed and enchanted which will take him on an interesting journey. Why not give one or both of these a try?
Make it a great week!
We at the Banter would love to know if you have purchased any of our Monday Mentions and, if so, how well you liked them. Please feel free to comment below.
BLURB: Personal chef Beau St. Clair, recently divorced from his cheating husband, returns to the small Ohio River town where he grew up to lick his wounds. Jack Rogers lives with his mother, Maisie, in that same small town, angry at and frightened of the world. Jack has a gap in his memory that hides something he dares not face, and he’s probably suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Maisie, seeking relief from her housebound and often surly son, hires Beau to cook for Jack, hoping the change might help bring Jack, once a handsome and vibrant attorney, back to his former self. But can a new face and comfort food compensate for the terror lurking in Jack’s past?
Slowly the two men begin a dance of revelation and healing. Food and compassion build a bridge between Beau and Jack, a bridge that might lead to love.
But will Jack’s demons allow it? His history could just as easily tear them apart as bring them together.
BLURB:
When Justin's best friend drags him to a track meeting, Justin thinks he's just going for the distraction. Having been dumped by his girlfriend, and still in the closet as bisexual, running allows him to forget about his problems. Everything works out—until his mother donates his favourite pair of sneakers to the local charity. As Justin tries to find his old sneakers, he stumbles on a pair of identical running shoes—and learns too late they are simultaneously cursed and enchanted by the virtues of anger. Now, stuck in a sudden vortex of rage and passion, Justin is forced to trust Vipin, the only person who seems to have answers to his many questions.
