About David’s Dilemma
When is it the wrong time to find Mr. Right? For David, that time is now. He’s caring for his homophobic father, who has Alzheimer’s, and his personal life is the last thing he has time to focus on. But when his father wanders off, David is forced to reach out to the police, in the person of Detective Travis Hart. Travis is gay, tired of the club life and twinks he can’t keep up with, and longs for a real relationship with a man who wants the same—maybe someone remarkable like David. In fact, David is exactly who he has been looking for, but Travis isn’t sure he can be the man David needs during this difficult time.
Because as David’s father sinks deeper into the disease that’s robbing him of his memories, David really needs a friend, not a lover. Though Travis is determined to support David in whatever way he can, David’s decision could lead both men into a situation with no possibility of a happy resolution.
First Edition published by Amber Quill Press, 2009.
4 HEART READ
REVIEW: David's Dilemma by Lynn Lorenz depicts the tragic fate one succumbs to when afflicted with Alzheimer’s; and the impact on those around them. On the flipside it joins heartbreak with hope, joy, and love....
....bringing two men in dire need of heartfelt companionship, together.
David Delaney Jr. has spent the last year of his life taking care of his father who is afflicted with Alzheimer’s and he’s slowly being consumed by it. He has put his life on hold to tend to his racist and homophobic father. The father son relationship is rocky but David feels a sense of guilt, avoiding the inevitable until the point when tragedy strikes.
Detective Travis Hart struggles with the dark side of his job and seeks companionship rather than just instant sexual gratification. Travis is a patient man that doesn’t exude a strong personality but rather complements the event’s occurring in David’s life.
David and Travis meet when David seeks help finding his father who has gone missing. The connection is immediate with each holding back because of their individual situations. Their romance is sweet and touching yet somewhat rushed and slightly sappy; with what (to this reader) felt like the use of honey and baby a tad bit overdone.
David and Travis are a good match both giving and taking in equal measure. Their slow build to a physical relationship helps cement their bond.
And given their difficult personal backgrounds, the amount of angst is limited and understandable.
David's Dilemma is a heartbreaking story full of sadness that leads two kindred souls together. With an ending that is completely satisfying, it’s definitely one to add to your TBR list.
