Hell, if I had an answer for that…
Seriously, my wife, Julia, and I have collections of all the weird things. Strange wood carvings, wind-up toys, random knick knacks and art. We have a huge bird collection – woven and pressed glass, carved and sewn and painted. We have a six foot tall safety man painting on a barnwood door. We have a huge Venus of Willendorf painting in the bedroom and a haunted mirror in the guest room. We’re the people that go to the junk store and say, “That’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen! I need it!”
I think my Sam in Just Like Cats and Dogs is like that. Glittery cowboy hat? God, yes. Dangly mirrored thing from Tibet? OMG. Yarn? ALL THE YARN?
See?
Then again, you know, Gus is a professional collector of the shiny. Especially the expensive shiny. The way to his heart is diamonds and tourmaline, garnets and emeralds, rubies and sapphire and and and.
No wonder he and Sam get along so well. *cackles evilly*
