About Play Chopin for Me

After a devastating fire, Dale Lusk shows up at his sister’s door in nothing but his boxers and a raincoat, desperately needing her help. Losing both his restaurant and home has left Dale without direction or a place to live.

While pushing her handsome brother into a new wardrobe to match his model looks, Chrissie introduces Dale to Al Borkowski. Al is in desperate need of a roommate before his grandmother takes more control of his life.

Little did Chrissie know when she pushed the two men together the sparks that would fly and the changes that would happen in all of their lives.

Dale was wrapping the big fish fillet in foil, preparing it to go into the oven when Al came up the stairs. “Hey,” Dale greeted Al.

“Hi.” Al stood close to the center island watching. “Mind if I ask a question?”

Dale looked up. “Sure.”

“How long have you been cooking?”

“I began cooking with my mother. When I was still in high school I got a job at a restaurant and loved it. After that I went to school. I was still in school when my mom …died. I did all the cooking at home then.” Dale began preparing the baby carrots and zucchini. “Chrissie was still pretty young at the time and my dad was… well he was useless in the kitchen and he was so lost when Mom died.”

“I’m sorry to hear about your mother.” Al watched as Dale tossed the veggies in olive oil. “How did she die?”

Dale froze for a moment. It was still difficult to talk about his mother. He cleared his throat. “9/11.” That was all he needed to say.

When Al didn’t say anything, Dale looked up. Neither needed to say anything else. They both knew the pain the city had gone through.

“Oh, I almost forgot,” Al said. He pulled out an envelope from his back pocket. “I got you tickets for both Friday and Saturday nights.”

“Thanks.” Dale opened the envelope. “Uh… there are two tickets.”

Al nodded. “I thought you might want to bring a date.”

Dale scowled slightly. “I don’t really know anyone to bring.”

“Oh.” Al said. “I figured… you might have someone you would like to bring.”

“No, not really.” Dale looked at Al. “To be honest, I don’t have much of a social life. My life was all about work and that makes it difficult to have a relationship.”

“I guess I was wrong to assume.”

Dale dried his hands, walked around the island and gave Al a hug. “That was very sweet of you.” He could feel Al stiffen from the contact. “I don’t bite you know,” Dale said chuckling. “And if you haven’t noticed, my family is big on hugs. My mother was always a hugger.”

It took Al a moment but he finally relaxed a bit. “Okay.”
