Monday Mentions: August 14, 2017

As students buckle down and begin returning to college campuses we thought it would be fun to feature a couple new adult reads in this week’s Monday Mentions. After all what’s sweeter than reading about that first adult love? Erin McLellan’s Controlled Burn released at Riptide Publishing today. After being outed during an event that caused the death of his boyfriend, Joel has outrun his past. Changing his name, moving, starting over…not letting anyone close, including his classmates and hookups. What he didn’t count on is his boyfriend’s death being a case study in one of his classes and falling for the sweet Paulie McPherson. Will he let his lies and grief rule him or will he take a chance? Releasing on August 19th is Feral Sephrian’s Top in the Class. What starts as a casual fling for Terry ends up being so much more when he discovers the older man he met at a bar is one of his professors. He can’t forget their wild night but “Professor Weiman”, Kyle, ignores him. Knowing he’s got what it takes, Terry pushes back, but they’ll have to confront more than a threat on Kyle’s career.

We at the Banter would love to know if you have purchased any of our Monday Mentions and, if so, how well you liked them. Please feel free to comment below.

Make it a great week!

About Controlled Burn

At eighteen, Joel Smith’s life fell to pieces. His boyfriend died in a car crash while reading a sext from him, the local newspaper outed them both in the aftermath, and his parents got a divorce. Joel did everything possible to outrun his past: he moved to Oklahoma for college, legally changed his name, and started over.

Since then, he hasn’t let anyone get close—not his classmates, not his roommate, and definitely not his hookups. The strategy has served him well for over three years. Why would he change it now?

But Joel doesn’t plan on the articles about his boyfriend’s death being used as a case study in one of his classes. And he doesn’t plan on Paulie McPherson, who is sweet and giving and fun. In Paulie, he finds a home for the first time in years.

But love isn’t simple, and lies have a tendency to get in the way. Joel must figure out if he’ll allow his grief to rule him, or if his connection with Paulie is worth letting all of his walls come tumbling down.

About Top in the Class

What should have been a casual fling before Terry starts the first semester of his second degree suddenly gets out of hand when he discovers Kyle, the hot older man he met at a bar, is one of his professors. Terry doesn’t want either of them to get in trouble, but he can’t forget that wild night in his car. He’s willing to wait to pick up where he and Kyle left off. But “Professor Weiman” is adamant about forgetting Terry exists, going as far as ignoring him during class. Terry knows he has what it takes to be a top student. However, the more he tries to get back in Kyle’s good graces, the more Kyle pushes him away. They’ll have to confront a dark stain on Kyle’s past -- and a new threat to Kyle’s career -- before Kyle can let Terry be more than teacher’s pet.
