About Loving Sarajevo

Gage has problems saying I love you. After five years with his live-in boyfriend, Lucas, he still hasn’t said it. When Lucas calls it quits, it’s not a surprise, but it couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time—the eve of Gage’s first business trip to Sarajevo.

Nikola, who’s been tasked with chaperoning Gage during his stay, is the walking epitome of sex on a stick. Gage quickly develops an attraction to him, even before he’s certain it could ever be reciprocated. When the feeling turns out to be mutual, Gage is surprised by Nikola’s domineering bedroom persona but finds he likes being manhandled by the sexy Bosnian.

After a heated disagreement, Nikola must convince Gage that even though they’ve only known each other a short time, what they feel for each other is worth fighting for. With only his cell phone and a plan, Nikola goes about getting the man who has stolen his heart to give them a chance at happiness.

Nikola stood a little too quickly when Gage walked back into the sitting area, making a few useless gestures with his hands before finally shoving them in his pockets. The idea tickled Gage’s brain that for some reason he made Nikola nervous. Gage wondered if the other man picked up on his attraction to him. If so, he’d have to be more careful.

His experience in other places he’d traveled to in Eastern Europe had shown him the tolerance for homosexual individuals seen in Western Europe did not extend east. He didn’t need to alienate the one man who could be crucial to him in his business dealings.

“Ready to go?” Nikola asked. Gage followed him out of the hotel room and up to the restaurant on the top floor. They were seated at a table right by the window so they could watch the city as the view changed slowly with the rotation of the restaurant.

Nikola was right. Sarajevo was pretty at night.

“So, you speak English like a native. Did you spend some time in the states?” Gage asked after they’d gotten comfortable. He wanted to get to know Nikola better and a little background was always a good thing, not just for personal reasons either; it helped with the business part too.

Before Nikola could answer, the waiter showed up and asked if they’d like something to drink. Gage hesitated. He wanted a beer but his research turned up the fact that Bosnia was a country with a diverse mix of religions, with the city of Sarajevo being predominately Muslim, so he wasn’t sure if it would offend Nikola. He didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot.

“I’ll have a Sarajevsko pivo,” Nikola told the waiter. Gage knew the word pivo meant beer, so when Nikola turned to him, he told him he’d have the same. Nikola chuckled. “So, you spent enough time in this part of the world to know the word for beer.”

“Ha, I knew that after my second day in Belgrade. It was the first word I learned. Jos pivo.” Gage smiled at Nikola’s delighted laughter. “So are you going tell me how it is you speak English so well?” Gage asked, getting back to his earlier question.

Nikola’s laughter died down but his posture remained relaxed. “I lived in America for fourteen years. I’m just as American as you are, got the papers to prove it and everything.” He watched Gage closely as if interested in seeing his reaction.

“Really? How did you end up in the states?” Gage asked, but at the shadow that crossed Nikola’s eyes, he wished he could take the words back.

“It’s kind of a long story.” The waiter dropped off their beer and asked if they’d like to order, interrupting what was probably going to be an uncomfortable conversation if Gage chose to pursue it. “You know what you want?” Nikola asked.

Gage realized he hadn’t even looked at the menu. “What do you recommend?”
