About In Case of Emergency

Former stepbrothers find Christmas romance under the tree. After years alone, Daniel Diaz is finally ready to shake up his orderly, solitary life. He's about to leave for a cozy Christmas getaway with his new man when he gets the call from the ER that his former stepbrother has been admitted with a concussion and a broken hand—and Cole put him down as his emergency contact. Why the hell would he do that? Daniel barely knows the guy. After all, their parents' marriage lasted less than a year and it was a decade ago! But Cole has no one else to look after him and strict doctor's orders not to be left alone. So fine, Daniel will bring him along on vacation to make sure he doesn't starve or fall into a coma. This is supposed to be Daniel's chance to explore romance again after locking down his feelings for too long—except it turns out his could-be boyfriend is more interested in partying and being an obnoxious jerk. Daniel sends him packing, and now he's stuck with a virtual stranger in an isolated mountain cabin. Cole Smith crushed hard on cranky Daniel when they were teenagers. Alone with him in a romantic winter wonderland, those feelings roar back to life. Glimpsing the caring, vulnerable man under Daniel's frosty shell, he yearns to get closer. Christmas is a time for surprises, and Daniel and Cole discover a scorching connection that just might melt their hearts. This fluffy gay Christmas romance from Keira Andrews features former stepbrothers reconnecting as adults, sexy hot-tub shenanigans, cuddling by the fire, and of course a happy ending.

REVIEW:

Keira Andrews gives us a fun, mushy, feel good romance with just the right amount of heat and flame to stoke the fires of yuletide celebration in her holiday novella, In Case of Emergency.

Just as workaholic Daniel is ready to live his new motto, CYC: Change Your Cadence, and head off for a Christmas holiday with his “’kind-of boyfriend’” he must take a detour and be the Good Samaritan for a man he hasn’t seen in over 10 years.

Nicholas ‘Cole’ Smith has had a crush on his ex-step-brother, Daniel, since he was 13. When he puts his name down as an emergency contact he never imagines his fantasy walking in his hospital room, nor could he dream of walking out with him.

As circumstances force them to go on Daniel’s planned romantic retreat – together - things don’t turn out so well when they get there. Or do they?

Stuck in a house with a lowlife who used him and people from work whom he would rather not see his humiliation…Daniel may just find the comfort he seeks in the man he never really knew. With just a four year difference between the two, at 17 Daniel had seen young Cole as a kid in the six months is mother was married to Cole’s father. As things go he never gave the guy the time of day, or a second thought, until…a seed is planted in his mind, and their visitor’s depart, and now it’s all he can ponder as he nurses Cole and finds himself wanting to make him smile, laugh. Happy.

You might think Cole a bit needy and Daniel a little motherly for just a broken wrist, but I’m telling you, go with it…because Keira makes this shit work!

In true Andrews fashion she paints a picture and draws you in visually with her words as Cole thinks, “Tension radiated so powerfully off Daniel that Cole was amazed the heat of his fury didn’t melt the snow in a radius around them,” and makes you believe in insta-love. Come on…it’s the Holidays, who doesn’t want to see everyone find joy?

For as reserved as these two men are in their initial interactions, when they open up and get down to business they make up for lost time. Cole’s teenage fantasy finally come true and Daniel’s years of longing satisfied.

Cole and Daniel are just adorable and I would thoroughly enjoy seeing more of them in the future, but with the tidy epilogue Keira Andrews gives us I’m satisfied they are headed for a HEA. And as a sucker for books that tie their title in well to the very end the last line of In Case of Emergency is beautiful perfection for these two lovebirds!
