Hi! I’m Kim Fielding, and I’m very excited to announce the arrival of my new Dreamspun Desires book, A Full Plate! If you’re in the mood for a sweet little opposites-attract romance with a hint of spice, this may fit your tastes exactly.
Lawyers. I know the profession stirs up a lot of stereotypes: an obnoxious guy in a suit, carrying a briefcase. He probably drives a BMW. He makes a lot of money and is willing to compromise his morals in order to ensure his client wins—and to ensure the lawyer gets to present a hefty bill. He spends his days giving speeches to juries.
There are certainly some lawyers who partially fit that stereotype, but of course the reality is very different. Many people go into law because they have a passion for seeking justice and protecting the rights of the powerless. Most people have racked up zillions of dollars in student loans by the time they get their law degrees, and many lawyers don’t get paid all that well. Lots of lawyers never step foot in a courtroom and instead spend their careers doing research, taking meetings, and writing up documents.
I speak from experience, because I have a law degree. Although I am a licensed member of the Nebraska Bar, I’ve never really practiced (apart from some work when I was in law school and grad school). I’ve instead spent my career in academia—and writing romance novels. My brother’s also a lawyer, and while he did practice for a while and later served as an administrative law judge, he’s spent the last bunch of years working in state government. Neither of us owns a BMW.
In A Full Plate, however, Tully has taken a more traditional approach to the profession and has become a successful corporate attorney. His job definitely brings in the money—although he drives a Tesla instead of a Beemer. As our story opens, however, he’s feeling a bit disconnected. Maybe there’s more to life than writing killer contracts. Enter Sage, a small-town cook who’s about to help Tully reconsider his priorities. Maybe Tully will find that being a lawyer is more flexible than he assumed.
Do you have a favorite lawyer, real or fictional? Mine is Atticus Finch.
And here’s a recipe for what should be a controlled substance: my mom’s sunflower seed cookies.
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 ½ cups flour
¾ tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1 cup shelled sunflower seeds
Thoroughly cream together butter and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and beat to blend well. Add flour, salt, soda, and oats. Mix thoroughly. Gently blend in sunflower seeds. Form into long rolls about 1 ½” in diameter. Wrap in wax paper and chill. Slice ¼” thick. Arrange on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350F for about 10 minutes until lightly browned.
Makes about 9 dozen cookies.
About A Full Plate
Opposites come together for a spicy surprise.
Bradford “Tully” Tolliver has everything—money, a beautiful condo, and a promising career as one of Portland’s hottest young lawyers. Sure, he puts in long hours and has no social life, but who needs romance when corporations pay top dollar for his expertise? When a colleague asks if her cousin can live with him, he’s hesitant, but the arrangement will last less than a year, and then the cousin—Sage Filling—will return to his tiny hometown.
But Sage is handsome and intriguing, and his cooking makes Tully swoon. Sage has obligations back home, though, and Tully has offers from a persistent—and very wealthy—ex that he might not refuse. Tully and Sage each have a full plate, but will they make room for a side of love?
Don't miss Annie's 4 HEART read recommendation of A Full Plate where she says: "Only a gifted writer could set readers up, knowing the punch lines, and still evoke chuckles!"
Meet the Author
Kim Fielding is the bestselling author of numerous M/M romance novels, novellas, and short stories. Like Kim herself, her work is eclectic, spanning genres such as contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, and historical. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.
After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. She lives there with her husband, her two daughters, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. This may explain why her characters often seem to be in transit as well. She dreams of traveling and writing full-time.
