GRL AUTHOR GUEST POST & BOOK BLITZ: Christine Wright, Author of the Mated to the Captain Series

Look for Supernova, due to arrive this week/weekend. Watch Amazon for the sales link!

Supernova is the third book in the Mated to the Captain series. It’s MM Sci-Fi romance with lots of adventure, sassiness and humor. There are quirky characters and unusual situations.

Below are some questions readers typically ask me about the series.

The Mated to the Captain Series summarized in a sentence?

A human gets way more than he bargained for when he gets drunk and ends up unwittingly mated to a bossy alpha alien.

What inspired this series?

My first fiction book, Light Years Away, came to existence after a trip to Vegas. I witnessed a few couples hurriedly getting married after a whirlwind of drunken fun and that's when the character of Del popped up in my mind. If someone interesting walks in I have him sit down and I interview him to see if there really is a story there. For Del there was a doozy of a story lurking within, I just had to pry it out of him by bribing him with cheese crackers. He'd gotten terribly drunk on a space station and had become mated to a Xolian. That led me to my next character. Who was this man? I did mention I write MM? Who was this mate and what sort of person was he? Del was small, slender with an adventurous nature. Quinn would be the opposite; strong, fierce and stubborn. Obviously there had been some HUGE misunderstanding between the human and alien. Now what? How was Captain Quinn going to get Del to stay on board? Ah, he needed to give him a job. That’s pretty much how I write. I meet an interesting character and I interview them. It eventually leads to plot points and key dialogue being laid out. Sometimes I jump around in the book sometimes I go chapter by chapter.

What is the hardest part about writing?

I personally hate the editing stage. Once I write a full story I want to move on to the next one. Another part that saddens me actually is that no matter what a writer does, the vision in the writer’s head is never truly seen by anyone else. I have a whole universe in my head- full of life, history, significance and wonder.

Supernova is the end of the Mated to the Captain series, what now?

I’m going to Disneyland. Joking. I’m struggling to say goodbye to my intergalactic friends. I’m pretty sure that some day there will be more from them, a few stand alones maybe. I want to explore where Hastor and Braxx get up to and of course, the twins. I hope to see what sort of trouble they can be for their fathers.

Which is the best planet in the series?

In my opinion the best planet in my universe is Xolia, of course. I’m a forest girl at heart. I’d love to interact with those intelligent trees. I’d also like to know more about the history of the planet. For example when the Xolians first encountered humans with their two genders how did the Xolians handle that? Or the Tree War that is mentioned in Supernova, what was it like to have another highly intelligent species on your planet suddenly declare war against you? How would you fight that without destroying your own lives in the process?

Do readers actually love the bad guys?

Some do. Yes, I’ll say it again. I too love the Rathian Raiders. They are heartless, bold and just a bit crazy. Their idea of parenthood and retirement is definitely not something that is seen on Earth. At least I hope not. Hastor, the cunning ‘rat’ as Quinn calls him, is unluckily mated to a Xolian. You know that combination will be flame to petrol.

Where did Kai the Octoshifter come from?

I swear to you I was just innocently watching a Youtube video of this girl eating a tiny, live octopus. The poor creature was fighting back fiercely and the narrator mentioned that sometimes people would choke to death. Into my head comes a vision of an octopus shifting into a man and walking out of the restaurant cursing in some alien language.

Did I mention I daydream a lot? Ideas just morph like that from something normal to something fantastical. I definitely do not get bored easily. I just go for a journey in a book or in a daydream. Yeah, wasn’t the best student, I have to admit except in creative writing.

A secret revealed: Readers could play ‘Where’s Benedict’ in every book. Could you explain that?

This made me laugh actually. A reader said she noticed in each of my stories a character that reminded her of someone Benedict Cumberbatch could play if these became movies. Firstly, thank you for saying you think they are awesome enough to be made into movies. I agree. I think we need LGBTQ sci-fi shows and movies. Secondly, you may be right. I read through this series, my short stories and my current work in progress- I did find him in each one (created completely subconsciously). Now readers can play ‘Where’s Benedict’ if they so choose. My lips are sealed; I am not going to reveal the answer.

I hope readers enjoy Supernova, book 3 of the Mated to the Captain Series. I had an absolute blast writing it.

Catch-up on the Mated to the Captain Series

MC’s

Del A human from New Earth, a bit wild and carefree, needs to be rescued from some pretty crazy situations.

Quinn Del’s Xolian mate. Xolians have a single gender, male, with two distinctions being Charon (Alpha) and Elon(pretty much Omega with attitude. Quinn is your typical Charon, bossy and protective but he has his hands full with a mate like Del.

Genre: M/M; Sci- Fi; Romance

Warnings - I write about sex between men, about dominant men setting rules and spanking submissive men for breaking those rules, and I write using a few curse words (I'm a military brat so I use what I heard). The stories in this series have lots of humor, sex and fun times however there is a plot here, some angst for some readers.

This series is best read in order:

BLURB: Maybe it was fate.

To get off of the space station Del desperately needed a job on board a spaceship. He wasn’t looking for love and he certainly wasn’t wanting the attention of a grumpy alien Captain who disciplined wayward crewmembers or threw them out of airlocks. Del never expected to be the Captain's new mate.

In this gay sci-fi follow the misadventures of a young human on board a Xolian space cruiser where being the Captain’s mate just might prove to be more difficult than being his First Officer.

BLURB: Just when he thought he was safe…

Trouble seemed to find Del no matter what he did. He got caged as a pet to a fly, caught in a trap as food, chased by a crazy, saw-wielding doctor and found himself mated to an alien Captain. One year after the consummation of their relationship Del thought that trouble was far behind him. Little did he know that life was going to get far more challenging and dangerous than ever before.

Quinn too was ready to get some rest and relaxation. But something strange followed them aboard the Narada Marant, something with tentacles and a unique appetite for Xolians. If that wasn’t bad enough, a cunning, evil warlord had his sights on kidnapping and selling Del. Looked like another rescue mission was going to be needed.

Getting pregnant would be the least of Del’s worries.
