GRL AUTHOR INTERVIEW, EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Terry Poole, Author of 'Seeing is Believ

Hi, Terry, thank you for joining us. It’s so exciting to have so many great authors stop by the Banter on the way to GRL this year.

Hi Kimmers, it’s a pleasure to be here. I know that you have been feeling a little under the weather, and I don’t want to keep you too long, so how about we get started?

If you aren’t familiar with the blog I like to start things off with a few fun questions to make you feel at ease.

First, what is the number one most played song on your music list?

I am a huge fan of indie music and soundtracks. The number one song I listen to most often is by Thomas Bergersen, Empire of Angels.

Now, what can you not live without on a daily basis?

Coffee. The elixir of the Gods and the lifeblood of writers. *laughs*

Don't I know it. For us bloggers too. *grins* If you could spend the day with one influential person, deceased or living, who would it be and why?

This is an extremely difficult question to answer. There are so many people I would love to meet but to spend the day with? I honestly wouldn’t know who to pick.

Fair enough. O.K., now onto the goods! For those who might not be familiar with your work give us four words that would describe your books best.

Love. Action. Mystery. Humor.

Lots of appeal there. Your recent release, Seeing is Believing, is a paranormal ghost story. This sounds awesome as we get into the Halloween season. Please, tell us a little bit about it.

Max sees what he thinks is a mugging and when he tries to help the victim, he is too late to save him. Understandably, he is traumatized from the experience and can’t stop dwelling on the dead man. So much so, that he believes he is hallucinating when he sees Nick, the dead detective, in his bedroom staring back at him.

Nick blunders around causing all sorts of mayhem as he tries to learn what being a ghost means Max frequently wonders what he’s gotten himself into and how. Besides the fact that they cannot be farther apart than thirty feet, they discover that Nick is solid only to Max and only when they touch.

Max can’t help falling for the big detective with the heart of gold but after several attempts on his life he wonders if Nick is right and his killer is trying to get rid of Max.

Nick comes to love the shy writer he is bonded to but wonders why he is a ghost. Why didn’t he move on when he died? He worries what will happen to Max if Nick somehow does manage to bring the killer to justice.

Is their love doomed from the start?

Wow, that sounds great! What inspired you to write this ghostly tale?

Surprisingly enough, RIPD, the movie about a dead detective bringing his killer to justice.

*grinning* My friends and family have a saying that my grave stone will be engraved with the words ‘what if’ because that’s how my mind works. What if a detective is killed? What if someone sees this? What if the dead detective is somehow bound to this person as a ghost? What if they fall in love? What if the murder comes looking for the witness? What if…what if… what if…

Hey, it never hurts to question. And I am seriously gonna have to check that movie out. Ryan Reynolds. Gah!

I see that you have a WIP called The price of Secrets. What might that be about and is there an expected release timeframe there or is it too early to say?

I was hoping to have Price out before October but as you know, life happens and it was held up but I should have a release date soon. Price of Secrets is the second book or sequel to Web of Secrets.

An old closed case of Kelly’s suddenly comes back with a vengeance when Nathan, his fiancé, is kidnapped and taken to Columbia. Kelly must assemble a team to extract Nathan from a drug lord’s compound before Nathan is killed for revenge. Betrayal and unexpected treachery threatens both the mission and their lives.

I'm sure we will all be on the look out for that one.

You were recently gracious enough to share one of your past reader/attendee GRL experiences with us, which by the way I found hysterical. It is awesome to see that author’s fangirl too….and ogle. *winks* This year however you’re attending on the other side of the table as a Supporting Author. Would you like to tell us what you are looking most forward to with this new experience?

The joy, of readers reaching out to me to tell me what they liked and what they want to read more of, is indescribable. The first fan email I received actually made me cry. Meeting those who have read my books and sharing my work with others is what I am looking forward to.

Well as a reader I can tell you we are looking forward to that as well. So I see from your bio that you are quite crafty. I happen to know that GRL has a Cock Walk. Will you be making anything for that and if so can you share what your masterpiece is? Also, would you like to tell our readers what the Cock Walk is all about?

*eyes twinkle* I crocheted some rainbow cock key chains which my co-workers promptly stole when they saw them. But never fear, I am making more.

The Cock Walk is pure silly and lots of fun. You purchase raffle tickets to win the weird and wonderful donated cock related prizes. 100% of the money raised from the Cock Walk goes to the Pulse Victims Fund. This fund helps the families and survivors of the horrific Florida club shooting.

*raises hand* I for one will be playing: Cocks and charity, awesome! Speaking of are there any causes within the LGBT community which are a hot button for you or that you are passionate about?

My youngest son’s best friend was thrown out of his home at seventeen when he came out to his folks. He lived with us for a year until he moved into campus housing to attend University.

I absolutely hate parents that would abandon or abuse their children because of who the children happen to love. It doesn’t matter what’s between a person’s legs. Love is love.

I wholeheartedly agree!

Well, Terry, this has been lots of fun. I hate to let you go but I definitely want you to rest up so that you can make it to GRL for me to meet you in person. I hope you will stop by our blog again soon. Perhaps when your new release comes out?

Thank you so much for having me on your blog and that sounds awesome. I would love to be on your blog again. I’m so looking forward to meeting you. Kansas City won’t know what hit them. *both of us laugh*

I can only imagine!

As the only witness to the murder of a police detective Max Cooke never thought the dead detective’s ghost would appear at the foot of his bed two days later. Not only does Max have to deal with the often ridiculous fallout of being bonded to a ghost, he ends up falling in love with the dead man haunting him.

Instead of wings and a harp Detective Nick Horvath ends up with a writer of romance stories, a sweet lonely man who brings out all his protective instincts.

When the murderer comes for looking for Max, Nick has to find a way to stop him. But if Nick succeeds, he may be forced to leave the man he loves. If he fails, Max could become the killer’s next victim.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

Max slowly opened one eye unsure why, what had woken him? He had that same sense of not being alone but stronger this time. He glanced around until he spotted the dead detective at the foot of his bed standing still with his arms crossed over his chest. Max closed his eyes with a sigh. He had to still be dreaming, one of those lifelike ones that felt real. But the feeling of being watched wasn’t going away. He opened both eyes and stared down at the dead man. The detective was still there, unmoving like a statue. He was tall, muscular and gorgeous. His full lips nicely balanced by a strong jaw and straight nose. It gave him a classical male beauty that made Max’s heart flip over in his chest. Expression unreadable, those hazel eyes stared back at him. Max rubbed both his eyes then rolled over careful not to kick Alfred curled up by his feet. Damn dreams. Honestly, why was he fantasizing about a dead man? They put people in nice white padded rooms for that.

After a few minutes Max realized that his eyes were open, his gaze fixed on the wall. He blinked then looked down past his feet. The dead detective was still there, still staring at him. Max squinted but the vision didn’t change. What the hell?

Max sat up, grabbed a bit of skin on his arm and pinched hard. Shit! That hurt. Okay, not asleep then.

“I must be losing my mind,” he muttered.

The vision opened his mouth. “Yeah, welcome to the club.” It said in a deep baritone voice.

Max screamed like a ten year old girl backpedaling on the bed until he hit the back of his head solidly on headboard. Alfred yowled in alarm, leapt off the bed and scampered out the door.

The dead man jumped. “The fuck? What the hell is wrong with you?”

“You…you’re dead!” Max stuttered, pointing a shaky finger towards what could only be a ghost.

Nestled between the two massive lakes that bisect Manitoba, Terry lives with her three fur children, her hubby, and her three human children (this number varies depending on who is staying at home at any given time). Her first book was created at five years of age, consisted of stick figures drawn on a roll of adding machine paper. When Terry isn't writing (which isn’t often), she can be found crocheting, making handmade soap or hanging out on Facebook. Terry’s number one complaint is that she has more stories in her head than she will ever be able to get down on paper.
